Know Your Priorities (Or Your Calendar Will Decide for You)

Sales Tip of the Week:

There’s a phrase I hear constantly from business owners:

“I have to…”

I have to finish my website.
I have to build this funnel.
I have to create more content.

You don’t actually have to do anything. Everything in your business is a choice.

And the moment you start seeing your work through that lens, not obligation but choice, your relationship with time and results changes.

Every Task Is Either Aligned or a Distraction

Every task becomes either:
• aligned with your priorities
or
• a distraction from them

There’s very little in between.

When you think there’s something you “have to do,” I want you to ask yourself:

Does this support one of my priorities?

Which means it is an absolute necessity that you know your priorities.

Manage Your Time Like the Version of You Who’s Already Booked Out

If you want your business to be booked out, you need to start managing your time like the version of you who’s already booked out.

Want a semi-passive online business? Block your time now like you’re already living that lifestyle and figure out how to do the work more efficiently.

Want a waitlist of clients? Start setting boundaries like someone who’s already in demand.

When you spend all your time in Canva or tweaking worksheets or hours organizing your desk, you’re doing anything but the things that generate income.

Why You Avoid the Real Work

You’re doing this because:

  • You don’t know what you should be doing instead

  • You do know, but it feels hard and your brain is avoiding it

And this avoidance? It’s costing you. Big time.

What You Actually Need to Hit Consistent $20K+ Months

You don’t need a perfect website.
You don’t need a polished brand.
You don’t need a 12-step funnel.

To hit consistent $20K+ months, you need:

  • A clear market (people to sell to)

  • A way to engage them (booking link, freebie, DM outreach)

  • A compelling offer (and a way to get paid)

  • A delivery method (online or in-person)

  • A feedback loop (testimonials, referrals, social proof)

In other words:

You need a sales system.

Stop Doing Things That Don’t Move the Needle

Here’s how most service providers, especially newer ones, prioritize their time:

  1. Client delivery

  2. Admin work and content creation

  3. Sales (last priority)

They will spend 50% or more of their time working with clients, holding open space for clients, or chatting with clients after sessions have ended. Right off the bat, they demonstrate that they have lots of time to give, which leads to weak boundaries.

This becomes a problem once you get busy, because your original clients will now feel like you are “too busy for them.”

Start treating your time as if you already are the super-star entrepreneur you desire to be.

Why Your Income Feels Inconsistent

When you spend 90% of your time in client work or busy work, your sales system does not get enough attention to stay running.

If your sales system isn’t always running, your income will be inconsistent.
No sales equals no business.

Your New Time Utilization Formula (That Gets You to $5K Months and Beyond)

Your Weekly Time Breakdown

50%: Sales Activities
DM conversations, emails, follow-ups, relationship-building, inviting people into offers, selling on social media (actually making offers in your lives, stories, and posts), referral partnerships, and events. Lean into your strengths while pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone.

25%: Content Creation and Backend Tasks
Top-of-funnel content, nurturing content, YouTube videos, podcast episodes, emails, course creation, client resources, big-picture planning, taxes, stats, bills, organization, licensing, contracts, and agreements.

25%: Client Delivery
Calls, sessions, deliverables, and client work.

Pro Tip: If you don’t have clients yet, roll delivery time into sales. Focus 75% of your time on income-generating tasks (IGTs).

Your Time Audit

Each day, write your to-do list and categorize every task into one of these buckets:

  • Income Generating Tasks (IGTs)

  • Content and Backend Work

  • Client Delivery

Then ask yourself:

Is my time aligned with my growth goals?

If not, rework it. Be discerning.

If you’ve been caught in a feast-or-famine cycle, chances are you’ve been inconsistent with IGTs.

This small awareness and shift in how you use your time can change everything.
